Commissioned by the Richmond Redevelopment & Housing Authority to renovate 475 Housing Units at Creighton Court, the DG Group
incorporated recommendations beyond simple physical upgrades. Recognizing the need to establish a sense of community for residents of Creighton Court,
we created 5 individual palettes of exterior modifications. Each palette represented a unique vocabulary of Architectural elements and styles that then
resulted in 5 different communities being established each with their own identity and personal scale. The improvements further strengthened community
engagements by functioning as social spaces, front porches, etc. designed to relate neighbor to neighbor.
The DG Group was also further commissioned to execute the adaptive re-use of a nearby structure that now serves as the RHHA Training Center. The Facility is designed to educate Public Housing residents as they learn carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical skills that they can then use in their own communities. The Training Center is a HUD funded project and is the first of its kind in the United States.
