FIRE STATION 16

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA

To blend with the surroundings of its historic Northside neighborhood, Fire Station 16 incorporates similar massing, materials and architectural details inherent to the area.  The Station is a "house" for working and living, with an attached "garage" functioning as the Apparatus Room. Replacement of the old facility with an expanded, more efficient facility is executed sensitively, incorporating in its design a window from the original structure. Art created by students of the neighboring Ginter Park School became images of firefighters in three vivid stained glass windows. Other student designs were made into colorful tiled floor on the building's entry porch.
